Pick a party question from the room, not from a stranger's life

A guest has just arrived. They are holding a drink, trying to remember two names, and deciding where to stand. This is a poor moment to ask for their most revealing childhood memory. A simpler starting point is something both people can see or hear. The playlist, the food, and the shape of the evening give a conversation somewhere to begin without demanding personal history. This is one of the editorial choices behind our Fun Icebreaker Questions page. The party questions use the room itself as material. Here is a way to turn that idea into a hosting plan. At the door: ask for an observation Try “What is one thing here you would recommend to someone who just arrived?” It gives a guest an easy job. They can point to a snack, a seat, or a song instead of thinking up an impressive fact about themselves. If you are the host, answer first: “The little pastries are worth getting before they disappear.” Then introduce the next person using their name. The question is a bridge to a conversati...

The Group Chat Is the Real Rice Purity Test

A Rice Purity score looks like the ending. It is really the opening line. Someone posts a number. For three seconds, the chat is quiet. Then the amateur detectives arrive. “That is suspiciously high.” “There is no way you got a 41.” “I know exactly which question did that.” Nobody knows anything. Everyone has a theory. This is the natural habitat of the Rice Purity Test. The number is useful because it leaves things out The test asks about dating, parties, sex, substances, rule-breaking, and a few situations that sound as if they escaped from somebody else’s freshman year. You check what you have done. Your score starts at 100 and falls as more boxes are checked. That is simple enough. The interesting part is that the result does not show which boxes you checked. A 62 can come from a long relationship, one chaotic summer, several tiny adventures, or a person who interpreted every question with the seriousness of a tax form. Two people can land on the same score and have almost...

The Five Things I Would Check Before Starting How to Fish

How to Fish looks simple for roughly the length of its title. Cast a line, land a creature, and deal with whatever starts flopping around on shore. Then the game adds guns, boat upgrades, NPC hand-ins, boss bait, gambling, and five stages of island progression. While organizing a How to Fish game guide, I found that most stalled runs came down to a small piece of missing information. The player had the wrong lure, sold a quest item, forgot a hand-in, or reached a boss without its trigger. These are the five checks I would keep beside the game. Treat unusual items as possible quest items The safe rule is simple. If a catch or drop looks too specific to be ordinary loot, keep it until the current quest giver has nothing left to say. The story route repeatedly turns an odd object into the next encounter. The lighthouse quest uses a Beer Can and then an Empty Beer Can. The forest quest turns three Leeches into a Modified Leech. A Carrot starts the Pufferfish encounter. Tuna brings dow...

A Bond target needs a time range

“How long until I can afford a Bond?” looks like a simple division problem. It is only useful after the calculation states which cash belongs to the player, which method supplies the earning rate, and how uncertain that rate is. I took a live snapshot on August 17. The OSRS Money Maker response priced a Bond at 11,435,631 GP. With a 10 million GP cash stack, the remaining gap was 1,435,631 GP. For a Members player choosing Low effort, allowing no Wilderness methods, and loading no Hiscores, the top eligible result was Tan red dragonhide at a live estimate of 792,000 GP per hour. Dividing the gap by 792,000 gives about 1.81 hours. That number is too precise for a market method. The tool applies its displayed range, 15 percent below to 5 percent above the live estimate, and reports roughly 1.73 to 2.13 hours instead. The range still is not a promise. It does not model Grand Exchange buy limits, slow fills, travel, competition, mistakes, or breaks. It also assumes the remain...

The GP/Hour Number Is Not the Whole Session

A high GP/hour estimate can describe a method accurately and still describe a session that you cannot actually run. The missing variable is often throughput. How many inputs can you buy? How quickly will the output sell? How much of your cash stack sits in an offer while you wait? I started paying more attention to this while reviewing methods for an OSRS money-making recommender. Two methods can have similar margins on paper, but one uses heavily traded items while the other depends on a low-volume ingredient. The second method may win the spreadsheet and lose the evening. Buy limits create a ceiling Some reviewed methods have very practical limits. Pie dishes can be slow to acquire. Bones have a 3,000-item Grand Exchange buy limit. Sacred oil has a 2,000-item limit, which matters if a modeled hour consumes more than that. Other recipes use ingredients with 11,000-per-four-hour limits. Those numbers do not make the methods bad. They change the size of the session. Suppose a metho...

What I Learned Building a Daily Football Player Guessing Game

I started building a daily football guessing game because I wanted something that could be played in a few minutes without turning football knowledge into a giant trivia exam. The simple version sounded obvious: choose a hidden player, let people search for names, and show clues after each guess. The difficult part was making every wrong answer useful. A guess has to reduce uncertainty If a player guesses a famous striker and only sees "wrong," the game is mostly luck. The feedback becomes interesting when it shows consistent differences such as league, club, nationality, age, position, or shirt number. A failed guess should produce a better second guess. Football data is messier than it looks Player names have accents, clubs change, leagues use different labels, and a footballer can appear under several positions. Search suggestions need to be forgiving without becoming vague. Long names also create layout problems on mobile, especially inside compact clue grids. The...
